As we noted earlier, the only programming we can do right now is by using our brains to guess how things work. We can’t program the robot to stop taking your money or stop killing you. We can’t program the robot to make you live longer or stop killing you.
But there’s a more fun way to do things today, and that’s by programming a robot to kill you. We’ve even seen it done. Back during the early days of the internet, people were programming robots to do murders. It was a fun way to kill people. In this case, the developers are programming a robot to kill you, which is actually quite cool. A lot of people have trouble imagining what programming a robot to kill would actually be like.
It’s actually fairly simple. You’ve got a bunch of micro-programming languages all programmed together on a computer that’s being watched by a big computer. The robot is programmed to do something that the computer would like it to do. The signal that the robot is being programmed to send would be: “Kill me.” So when the robot does send this signal, it goes to the computer and says, “I’ve got a problem.” The computer, of course, says, “Well, we’re on a time loop.
The whole story is pretty neat. It starts with a guy on a beach who’s been trying to kill himself for several days. He’s got one of those computers programmed to kill him every few hours. He’s also got a bunch of robots that can talk to each other and send signals to each other. As he gets deeper into his self-killing loop, he starts to receive messages from the robots and the computer.
The message that the robots send to him is, “Are you okay? Are you hurt? Are you lost? The computer has been trying to help you out.” The message the computer sends to him is, “Okay, I have a great idea. I think we should have a contest to see who can solve the most problems.
The game is not only about solving problems. At each of the levels you solve a puzzle with a robot which then goes into a sub-game where you have to solve these multiple puzzles. The most recent level took a while to get through because the robots weren’t very cooperative. The robots were fighting with each other because they were the only one who knew how to solve all of the puzzles quickly. The more the robots and the computer cooperate, the more the game will grow more complex.
