This really was a life-changing experience for me. I was flying from Atlanta to New York on my way back from visiting my parents, and I had just landed after making a stop at Philadelphia International. The plane had just landed as I was getting off, and I felt it was time to return home.
I’m not sure what happened, but I was sitting on the plane and I heard some kind of crash. I thought it was some kind of engine explosion, but when I got off and looked around I saw that the entire plane was in pieces.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the plane had hit a tree at 30,000 feet. It had also become wedged under the trunk and was “tumbling toward the ocean.” Luckily, there was no one onboard, and only a handful of passengers were hurt. The passengers included a pilot, a flight attendant, two passengers, and the pilot’s wife.
It’s kind of hard to tell what happened, but the pilot had to eject. This was a fairly routine incident for the entire flight, where the pilot ejected just before the plane went into the trees. The flight attendant was one of the passengers who survived thanks to a parachute that she had already deployed.
One passenger was the flight attendant, who was critically injured at the top of the stairwell. There were two other passengers who were taken to the hospital but survived.

The plane crashed into the tree at the top of a nearby hill just before the flight attendants were to deploy the parachute. According to the passenger who survived, “It was a very, very heavy impact. [The plane] shook and hit a tree. The impact made it go into the tree on top of us and the parachute came out.
The plane came down at an elevation of about 250 feet. The plane then landed at a lower elevation of 165 feet. It was approximately 40 feet in diameter. The airframe was made out of aluminum. All the windows were intact. The plane did not go into the ground, as seen by the passenger, who said that a person who was standing up straight while it was landing was the passenger who did not survive. The passenger said he heard a loud sound like a bomb going off.
The official report from the accident scene says that the plane hit the ground first. However, the report does not mention that the fuselage was still intact after the first impact. The pilot, a 48-year-old man, went up in the plane after the crash, and he then climbed out of the wreckage with the help of two other men. He landed on a beach about 200 feet from the plane.
