Just because you don’t have a major one on your list doesn’t mean you should not have them. The list is what it takes to get your office job done right. If you have an office job that requires one or more employees to complete a day for a specified period, there are many opportunities for employees to work at a different level.
I know what you’re thinking. How can you possibly hire a person who does nothing more than make coffee and answer the phone? Well, that’s true. But in some offices you can hire a lot of people and then split them into different duties so that they can help with specific tasks, like cleaning your place or doing some paperwork. Some offices have more flexible working hours, so people can work when they want and stay late to help with a specific task.
But as you can imagine, the office where I work is a little different. I work from 8-5 Monday-Friday and my work day is a bit longer so I have lots of time to do some office stuff. I also help with the office cleaning and, well, you’ll have to ask my boss.
My boss is an absolute jerk who seems more interested in talking about his latest sexual relationship with the intern on my team than helping me with my job. If I ever need help with anything at work, I’m on it.
You see, I’m not just some random person. I have a lot on my plate and I’m only human. So I do my best. I get that the job I do is a little different than the job I do at home. But I don’t think that’s the real problem, because the real problem is that I’m just not as good at the job I do at home. Which is why I’m trying to do the job I do at home better.
I can only imagine how frustrating it must be for Mr. B to wake up and discover that he’s not his real assistant, but only some random person with a lot on his plate. Because the day he wakes up in this world is the same day he wakes up in the other.
It takes a lot of training to be an assistant, but I wonder how much the real world compares to the virtual one. As a person who works with people all day long, I can imagine a world where you are at work, and you are having to make everything perfect just so that your boss doesn’t fire you. In that world, I would say that the job is just as frustrating as the real one, but you do it with the same level of frustration.
There are many options out there as to which one you prefer.
A lot of people seem to have a lot of time to think about how to do it all. The idea of a small, dedicated, and focused job seems a pretty good one. You can even create a computer program that gets you in front of your boss to do all of the things you want to do. That is really one of the reasons why I love the idea of a small, dedicated, and focused job.
Just have a look at the list of job functions that most people seem to do, and you should find one that you like. You might not like the one you like, but you will enjoy it.
